Toys!

Luna has really started to enjoy toys.  It's taken awhile for her to grasp the concept of how to play with toys since she hasn't had other dogs around to show her how.  For awhile, she only liked stuffed animal toys with squeakers.  Now, her toy chest has expanded to tennis balls, puzzle balls, and sticks.

Sticks? Yep.  She's figured out that tug is a great new game.  The other day we took Luna to Mike's family's house to run around the backyard.  Over the last few play sessions she has become a little more mouthy than usual.  I don't want to yell at her since it has taken so long for her to feel comfortable enough to play enthusiastically, but I don't want her to develop bad habits.  I picked up a stick to direct her biting to a more appropriate item.  Within a few minutes she and I were playing tug!  Despite the taste of bark in her mouth, Luna loved the new game.  I'm definitely going to need to get a few rope for us to play tug in the house.

I've been taking some videos of Luna playing, but they never come out quite right.  I hope to capture a good video soon so I can show you all how much fun she's having.

Kuster is our resident tugger, and he really likes the Kong tug toys. We like them because there are nice long ropes on them to protect our fingers! lol

So glad she is playing. Don't throw a stick though as there have been loads of nasty accidents with them.

She might need some of those silly border collie tug toys. :-) I've been getting some for Maddie. :-)

You can make a decent tug toy by tearing up old tee shirts and plaiting them into a rope, then knotting the ends. Cheap, cheerful and easy to do!!

Neither of mine play very much, but our first greyhound looooved to play. He loved empty plastic bottles, footballs, tug toys, sticks, stuffies, paper, anything! Actually, the only thing he didn't much like were the hard rubber type of toy, but everything else was GOOD!
