Luna's home!
Our princess on her mountain of pillows. |
We brought her home tonight and we can tell she is very happy to be back. I think she's a little nervous since she is used to following us from room to room and now she has to trust that we will return to her. We have her set up in the living room which includes the tv, front door, and ratties (another form of entertainment). It's going to be hard for her to sleep downstairs by herself, but we hope she will get used to it quickly.
Luna's mobility seems to be improving. Her right front leg is very strong. Her back right leg and front left leg are pretty good too. The back left is still useless. She impressed us tonight by moving her head, neck, and a bit of shoulder when I left the room. She was upset so she was trying to follow me. She's also eating well and it is hard not to keep feeding her treats.
We were given a lot of instructions on how to care for her, but nothing too complicated. Basically, we need to keep her muscles in shape by stretching her legs several times a day, helping her go to the bathroom if needed, flip her every few hours, and keep her clean and comfortable. It's like brining home a baby.....a baby that will hopefully start walking very soon.
Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to read about Luna and offer advice and well wishes. I can't begin to tell you how much your comments have meant to us. It is so nice to know Luna has cheerleaders everywhere.
To wrap up, here is a video of Luna a few minutes after we brought her home. Thank goodness I had just finished teaching her "paw" before her accident. It will make therapy work a lot easier. Oh, and the pig nose trick...that's Mike's favorite that he wan't Luna to learn (thanks Jennifer).

I was so hoping that she'd get to come home tonight! It must make you feel a lot better to have her there. Here's hoping things will keep improving.
I cracked up seeing her doing the pig nose trick! Jen is the queen of entertaining bedridden dogs after that one. I loved all the tricks she came up with!
So sorry to hear of Luna's accident but am glad she is home! You all will be in my thoughts and prayers!

We're very sorry for Luna's accident, but glad she's back in the bosom of her family. I hope she will continue to improve by leaps and bounds.
So glad Luna is home with you. no doubt that being with you will help her get better.
Lot of snuggles to her
So glad Luna is home! Hurray! Thinking and praying for you all as you work through the days and weeks ahead. Luna looks like she's up for it!
I am so glad to hear that Luna is home. I'm sure you are relieved and a little stressed. We've nursed a lot of hounds back to health at home. My vet believes it's a whole lot less stressful for the dog.
We're thinking about you.
I'm so happy Luna is home! I'm sure you are too. The video is so cute, it's obvious how much you love her. Do you have a harness to help move her and help with standing and walking? When Zephyr got sick and couldn't walk and then needed help when he could walk I got a Help Em Up harness http://helpemup.com/ The neurologist had been using one. Zephyr is a big boy, 90+ lbs., and I am small, but I was able to move him on my own with the harness. Just an idea in case it would help. Do they know what has happened to her vertebrae? Poor girl. I've been thinking about her a lot and am really rooting for her. It's amazing what they can recover from. I know it's hard on you both too and a lot of work. Hang in there! :-)
Read about Luna on the Tails and Tales blog and just wanted to stop by and wish Luna a full and speedy recovery. She seems like a champion with a stong spirit. We're keeping our paws crossed for her.

So glad to see Luna home.
Wonder if a DAP collar might just keep her from getting anxious about having to stay where she is.
Song and I are sending her huge hugs (((Luna))).
I'm way behind with blogs and just saw about Luna on Tales and Tails. So very sorry for what happened to Luna, such very bad luck. It's wonderful she has been able to come home and I do hope she makes a full recovery. I guess it won't matter to you if she doesn't, you will love her just as much:) She looks to be in great spirits in the video. Her attitude will help her get well soon, I'm sure:)
Yay, she's home. Hoping to hear about more improvements with every post.
Oh, praise GOD. I am so glad that Luna has got to come home. I am sure she will make huge improvements just being around her humans. Sniffs, The HoundDogs
Just breaks my heart, but so glad to see Luna home. They can and do improve. Good luck and lots of hope flowing your way.
I've been thinking about you and Luna and hoped she was back home. She looks good and so alert. I know how stressful it is taking care of an injured dog. I hope that each day gets easier for all of you. Please keep us posted on her progress. We are cheering her on here in Missouri!
I was in tears when I heard she was improving. She looks terrific at home.
I was going to ask if I could visit her today at lunch since I work in the next town over. But, looks like she's home safe and sound.

We heard about Luna's accident and wanted to stop by to offer our well wishes. It sounds like an absolutely horrible thing to witness, and I am so sorry that poor Luna has had to go through this. We wish her a full and speedy recovery.
Mary Pat,
Thank you for checking in with her. I know she's further away from you now, but you are more than welcome to visit. If it's too far, you can always check in with her here. I'm letting her know all the great things people (and puppies) are saying about her.

I am so glad Luna is recovering well at home, where she belongs. She is just so sweet and this video proves it. I hope things keep improving and she is back to her old tricks in no time!
I'm glad Luna was well enough to come home. I hope she recovers fully.
So glad she's home! She looks GREAT! I know it must be hard not to have her be mobile, but we're so hoping she's mobile again very soon! We're hoping and praying for LOTS of fast improvement.
