The Morning Report

I called the vet this morning (I'm such a nuisance) and heard Luna barking her head off in the background. At first I was scared, but I realized that the doctor would not be talking to me if my dog was in trouble.  "Can you hear your baby?" she asked.  "We've had her go to the bathroom, fed her breakfast, and fluffed her pillows.  We think she's just upset that no one is paying attention to her because she stops when we come over."  That sounds like my girl.

Luna's status is about the same as it was last night, but it sounds like she is able to support herself a bit more on her three legs.  The left rear remains a problem, but I think the left front is getting a little better.  Judging by her barking, I'd say she's frustrated that she can't get up and move around.  The doctor says she can push herself off the pillow if you put her feet against the wall.  Good to know.

I had hoped to bring her home today since I took the day off from work (we had a department meeting and I just couldn't handle being around so many people).  Taking her home today is still a possibility, but the doctor is on the road today and won't be back until late tonight.  She wants to be the one to give us home care instructions so we need to wait for a good time for her.  We may have to wait until tomorrow when she is back at the office.

It's a little frustrating to have to wait, but I'm going to spend the day preparing the house for Luna's return.  We'll need some safe and comfy beds prepared, plenty of towels and blankets, and all the clutter picked up so we don't trip while carrying her.  I'd better get started.

Thank you to everyone who has visited and left words of encouragement.  It means a lot to me to have so many people and dogs rooting for her.  A special thanks to Bunny and houndstooth for sharing our story.  I thought this was going to be the end of my blog, but I'm glad to keep it going to share her updates.  It's a nice way to document her progress.  I will post again soon and hopefully will have a picture or two to share.

I'm glad to hear that she is barking and demanding attention. I think that is a good sign. She is going to feel better when she is back home. It will be hard on you, but if you are like me, I would rather have my baby at home with me, even if it's harder on me.

Please keep us updated on her progress.

Sorry, I deleted my first comment. I wanted to add more and didn't know how to do it.

Oh, we are so happy to hear a little bit of good news of Luna. Sounds like she is making some very good baby steps toward her recovery. We will continue to fling the drool and keep our paws crossed for more good progress. Stay strong Luna and get lots of rest. You have lots of friends pulling for a fully recovery for you. Luna, When you get home, I think they should give you a bell so you won't have to bark all the time when you want something :)

This is such great news! It sounds like she is a real fighter. Once she's up to it I wonder if some physical therapy would help her recover? I've been doing that with Zephyr and it has really helped. Still sending lots of love and healing thoughts to Luna and you.

Hello

I came over after hearing from Bunny and Houndstooth that Luna had had a terrible accident. I've just read your last few posts and can't imagine how you must all be feeling.

But today's post sounds like there's good news. She sounds like she's a strong girl and with lots of people rooting for her I think she's going to be fine.

I'll keep checking in to get updates on Luna's progress.

Lots and lots of love to you all from me and all the People Of The House.

Love from Winnie the Greyhound

Hi there! We read about Luna on Bunny's blog and stopped by to offer some encouragement. While we haven't had anything as severe as Luna's accident, my dog Riley just had knee surgery about 7 weeks ago, so I can totally feel for you about the recovery and the uncertainty of what Luna's capable/incapable of. I did learn one thing--dogs are very resilient and adaptable.

We hope Luna is home and feeling better soon and we feel for you all!

I'm so glad that things are sounding optimistic, and also glad that you're feeling lots of support! A year ago, I was dealing with a dog who'd just had a cancerous lump removed from her head. Knowing that so many other people cared about her and were cheering for us really helped. One thing I've learned about Greyhounds over the years is that they are very resilient and can bounce back from a lot more than we think they can. I don't know if you're a member of Greytalk or not (it's an online Greyhound forum) but there may be people there who can give you lots of good advice if you ask questions in the health and medical section. In any event, I hope we'll hear that Luna is home soon!

Just wanted to let you know that my thought & prayer are with you and Luna. These hounds are made of sterner stuff. I have 4 hounds of my own.

Glad to hear Luna's character is starting to shine through! That's a great sign.

We have travelled the road you are on and while not an easy one, it is incredibly rewarding to see the strength and perseverance in the hounds. They are incredible, adapt, and the fact you will likely sleep next to her for some time to come, you will become very close! I look forward to hearing good news on the horizon. Good luck!
