Becoming a Minivan Mom

Remember how I said bringing Luna home from the vet was like bringing home a baby?  It's amazing to think that a month ago we were providing 24 hour care.  We fed her, changed her bedding, and carried her when needed.  Thankfully, that stage didn't last long (my back is especially grateful).  Soon we were diving to catch an unsteady dog who was relearning how to walk.  We created safe areas for her to fall and used blankets as bumpers.  Again, that stage didn't last long.  Now we have progressed to the after-school activities stage.

I mentioned to my coworker that I was taking Luna to the vet and to physical therapy tonight and she pointed out that I had turned into a soccer mom.  She is right!  I have been loading Luna into my Jeep to take her to her after-school commitments for the past couple of weeks.  Tonight's activities included the doctor's office (vet) and swimming lessons (physical therapy).  All that I'm missing is a bumper sticker that tells the world my dog is an honor student at obedience school.  Of course, she would have to go to obedience school first, but I guess she is home schooled since I've been training her for months.

Who knew that Luna's accident would give Mike and me such a full experience of what parenting is like?  And here we thought we were just getting a dog.  Silly us.

Here are a couple of videos that show how well Luna has progressed.  The first is her at tonight's physical therapy.

The second is of her on one of our bitterly cold walks.

I recommend the "My Greyhound is Smarter Than Your Honor Student" bumper sticker for the van! ;)

She's looking fantastic! I'd never have guessed such a speedy recovery!

Her left leg has improved so much. I'm not even sure I can see a difference. I like the bumper sticker idea too. :-)

Yep, having a pet is pretty much like parenting, in many ways.
Glad she is recovering so well.

Glad to see she is doing so well. My wife has 'circused up' my car with several greyhound stickers.

Wow, she doesn't even have a limp anymore. A big change since she left my house last week.
She looks SOOOO wonderful.

Is the vet still giving limitations on her activities? Are there things he/she doesn't want Luna to do even if she seems 100%?

My goodness, she is doing well isn't she? Bless her, and you too. I suspect this has been a huge amount of work for you both, but she looks good!
